Dominion: Big Thaw Bock (2012)

A Maibock has a certain attitude which reflects the release from winter's hermitage to the race towards spring's beer gardens. This Bock (billed as a lager) tastes much more the IPA than a classic Maibock. Hoppy. Bitter. Sweet finish.
It should be pointed out that Americanized "bocks" found on the supermarket shelves year-round replete with handsome goat portraiture are a different beast. More the darker, ruder side of the glass, as opposed to the Maibocks which are more ladylike by comparison: sweeter, almost flowery.
Most of Dominion's offerings are well above par, though the year-round contenders lean more towards subtleties, this one is a full bodied drinker. Crisp, well defined with equal parts sugar and salt. This bock is going to set you right until the warm rays of May fall upon your face.
Pairs well with Little Walter and Asgard.
