Double Bag Ale: Long Trail (2012)

I'm warming up to ales. After a decades-long obsession with stouts and porters (and the occasional IPA), I'm discovering the joys of a fine (in this case strong) ale.
While many IPAs go sweet and lagers trend salty, this ale magically pushes both flavors equally to great effect. Nothing exotic, just a fine brew worthy of whatever your evening may offer up.
The poorly-named Double Bag ale does not prepare one for the refined taste which is set to unfold therein. A taste which never deviates far from expectations, but is also somewhat unexpected. And, that Vermont water supply is everything you'd hoped fer.
Strong ales were once known as "Stickebier" in Germany which loosely translates as "secret brew." Once you've been hipped, don't feel obliged to to keep to yourself. Sharing is caring after all.
Pairs well with John Coltrane bootlegs and Eric Dolphy.
